Happy Birthday RNC!
We are 12!! I can’t believe it is 12 years since I decided to start my own really nice company (RNC). I won’t bore you by repeating the conception story here but I will tell you a bit about what I saw then and what I see now.

|
2011 |
• GST Projects everywhere |
|
• No central theme to project environment |
• Accreditation hailed as the remedy for project failure |
|
• Accreditation acknowledged by buyers as a good indication of language but not of ability |
• PMO’s were yet to be a glimmer in the eyes of… |
|
|
• Projects and programs were failing at upwards of 80% (as defined by the people who matter, the people who want projects done) |
|
• Nothing has changed – BUT RNC failure rate is only 20% (total inverse to industry average) |
• Top PMs commanded $1200 per day |
|
• Not much has changed there either. |
• People looking to project management as a way of delivering |
|
• People now thinking PM is the admin tool and business people are increasingly moving into the ‘delivery’ space. |
• RNC unknown |
|
• Clients looking for RNC on candidate CV’s – there is a cache about having been good enough to get in to RNC |
So, what do we have in store for 2011?
- More clients and interesting jobs
- More people working with us – to add to the 53 currently
- More focus on you – take a bow Di
- Opening the US office – more about that soon.
- Focus on high value roles (meaning when the client really cares about the outcome rather than just needing any old PM and not valuing RNC’s involvement)
- Continuing to improve our standing in the market (and thereby the rates we can command)
What can you do to help:
- Stay current (with PM and with the broader market).
- Do you tweet?
- Do you have an iPad?
- Become fluent in current management speak
- Brush up your PowerPoint skills – nothing dates someone as much as low level power point skills.
- Invest in your CV – get it written professionally
- Get yourself a speaking engagement
- Attend some courses on almost anything – lunches with speakers, etc
- Read stuff that will make conversation with you easier for clients i.e know a bit about what’s going on around you.
- Stay fit and healthy
